Chapter 1 preview of You'll Say Yes

Okay...so, as promised here's Chapter 1 of You'll Say Yes.

Chapter 1

The Memories and The Beginning

I’m Abigail Annabel Bennett, but please call me Abby.

I didn’t consider myself beautiful or popular in high school or in college, but I did have some good friends. I had blue eyes and dark brown hair, my skin was pale no matter if I was in the sun or not.

When I was six years old, my parents divorced, so I spent my childhood with my mother. When I was in high school, she had gotten remarried; a football player, Steven Thompson. And so, as the selfless person that I am, I decided to give them some privacy; I moved in with my father. I lived with him until I graduated high school. I then moved to Long Beach, Washington.

I thought moving back to my childhood town would be good for me, but I was wrong.

Yes, I had my best friends, Melinda Reyes and Stella Miller. Melinda was brunette just like me while Stella had dark hair. I knew Stella and her boyfriend, Evan Wilson, since our childhood. Evan was a handsome man with light brown hair. They were really good friends of mine. But Joshua Walsh, one of Evan’s friends, was not a friend.

The whole population at Long Beach High knew him.

He was gorgeous with brown, reddish hair, a perfect body, and hazel eyes. His father was a doctor in the local hospital, his mother was an architect. He was smart, but had a reputation for having a different girl on his arm every week. How the girls would end up on his arm, I would never know.

When I started my first year of high school, Joshua followed me around for a week. I didn’t know what his problem was. During that time, he started asking me questions about things like my favorite childhood game or my favorite cookies. Sometimes he looked at me deeply, like he was trying to decipher my thoughts or memorize my face. It was creepy.

I tried to be polite, even though I received a lot of glares from some popular girls because he was following me around.

All hell broke loose when I refused to be his date to the Spring Dance. I refused him because I saw him making out with some blonde bimbo in the hall just before he asked me.

He avoided me, after the refusal, then spreaded rumors and lies about me. Do you think that was the worst part? Of course not! He spread the worst part of my secret. He said I was a sleep talker. How he found out, I would never know. Only my parents knew about this, and there was no way Joshua would of ask my parents. I didn’t date in high school. Especially not after my fight with Joshua. That was seven years ago.

I went to Dartmouth after I graduated high school and received a degree in English Literature.

I didn’t see or hear about Joshua since high school. Stella, Melinda, and I remained best friends and kept in contact. Stella worked as an editor for a fashion magazine in New York and Melinda worked as a teacher in Long Beach.

I walked to my office on a warm Monday morning--not that I didn't have a car--I did. My old black Honda, it still worked. I never used it for work, but I did use it on the weekends to the grocery store, to the bookstore, or just hanging around at the park. I worked at a local publishing company in Seattle as a junior editor. I really loved my job because I had a chance to read new books before they were published and I had opportunities to meet with some outstanding authors. I hoped I could be like them someday.

My office was a second home for me. I spent the majority of my time in front of my computer; to the point that I had to use my reading glasses to prevent my eyes from being exhausted.

My phone started ringing as soon as I sat down in my chair.

"Abby Bennett. How may I help you?"

"Abby, honey. How are you?" My mother's voice chimed in from the other side of the phone.

I smiled. "Hi, Mom. I'm fine, just arrived at my desk. How are you and Steven?" I started my computer and began to open some files.

I heard her laugh. "Oh, Steven is fine. He says hi. Um…Abby, do you think you could visit your dad this weekend?"

I stopped what I was doing and furrowed my eyebrows. "Is there something wrong with Dad?"

"No, no, there's nothing wrong with your father, honey. It's just...there is a thing that we as a family have to settle."

"A thing? Mom, can you be a little more specific?"

"Well..." she sounds nervous.

"Mom, what is going on?"

She exhaled. "Abby, you’re getting engaged."

I nearly fell out of my chair. "Mom! What did you do? What is this? The 18th century? I can find my own husband!" My outburst gained some glances from my co-workers, but I didn't care.

"Abby, please calm down, this is not your father's intention or mine, but it was the boy who asked your father to marry you when you turned twenty-eight years old."

I slapped my forehead with my free hand. "Fantastic. A boy asked to marry me when I turn twenty-eight. Great. Do I know this boy?"

My mother cleared her throat. "Yes, you do, honey."

Silence.

"Who is he then?"

"Joshua Walsh."

You'll Say Yes will be out on February 14, 2015.

The title for my next romance e-book, "You'll Say Yes"

Synopsis for my next romance, "You'll Say Yes"

"Abby, will you marry me someday?"

Abigail Bennett and Joshua Walsh had been friends since they were kids. Following her parents' divorce, Abby moved away with her mother, leaving her good friend behind. Before she left, Abby made a promise with Joshua to one day become his wife. Years later, Abby moves back in with her father, and encounters her old friend. The friendship they once had is seemingly forgotten as Joshua treats Abby harshly, causing her to develop ill feelings toward him. When they meet again for a high school reunion, Abby is reminded of the promise, and what she thought was just a harmless agreement becomes so much more.

Coming on February 2015.

Second e-book on the way...

After releasing my first e-book which I'm not very happy with the marketing, I have second e-book on the way. This time it will take more serious steps and hopefully, will come out on Valentine's week next year. It's still about romance and no erotica or Harlequin thing this time, but it's still could warm your heart.

For the first clue, it is about the childhood promise :)

My interview with author peer, J.C. Brown

I had this lovely interview two weeks ago and J.C. is really a nice person. Here is my interview with her :)

Julie: How are you today?

Tri: Feeling good. Just woke up. It's 5 am here. lol

Julie:I am sooo sorry! lol Do you need a bit to wake up?

Tri: Nah, I'm fine. I usually wake up in this hour.

Julie: Where exactly are you ?

Tri: Well, actually I'm in Indonesia

Julie : I would like to ask.. how old were you when you began writing seriously and what inspired you to do it?
Tri: I began writing when I was seven, but in my native language. It was because I have a lot of imagination and the best thing to pour it out is with writing. My genre is mostly fantasy and romance. I have a soft spot for both genres.

A Little Bit Love for To Love Again

Referring to my last post, I mentioned about some people love my ebook and most of them hate it. Looks like it's true. On a website where I put my ebook for free (well, not only Kindle which can give free ebook), one of the downloaders gave my ebook 4 star. It's both surprising and also lifted my mood alittle bit. After the hatred review I received, some people love it. Perhaps To Love Again indeed not for all readers. Picky and strict readers won't like or even love my ebook, but the others who look for entertainment probably love it.
There's always silver linings in every dark clouds. I wonder if my next ebook (the manuscript submitted to ABNA) will get the same treatment.

Since it's already reached 1k+ downloads, I plan to ask the website to delete my ebook tomorrow. I think it's enough for the exposure. If you have ebook and want to make it free, but don't like the Amazon-exclusive thing, free-ebooks.net could be your choice.

Nobody is Perfect

I just released my ebook, some of them love it and most hate it. Well, I guess I can't please everyone. As a matter of fact, I have one story which written before I wrote this ebook and submitted the story for ABNA (Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards). It's also translated to Portuguese and reached more than 2k reviews. So, I don't know why it is go wrong.

I'm not saying my manuscript will pass (I even doubt it), but I'm just curious over the taste of readers out there. I have soft spot for romance (and a little bit of erotica is fine for me) and I wrote stories with happy ending. Life is already gave us hard time, fiction should give a good distraction.

Let's see if I can do better with my next story. Aside from being submitted to ABNA, it's also being in editing and proofreading process.

Quick "interview"

One of my friends posted these two questions in my message and she would like for me to answer her questions in my blog. So, here it is:

Where did you get your inspiration for your stories?
Anywhere and anytime, and often it came unexpectedly. I have written one story where I got the inspiration when I cooked in my kitchen. The stories which always play in my brain usually have a lot of audience. At least for me.

What type of stories did you write or will you write in the future?

It took nearly four years for me to find the most comfortable writing style. I must say my writing style is simple and entertaining because I believe real life already gave us a lot of things to do, so fiction should give us a good distraction. I’ll still in romance area after this ebook comes out.
